What is WRAP®?
The Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP®) is a personalized wellness and recovery system born out of and rooted in the principle of self-determination. WRAP® is a wellness and recovery approach that helps people to: 1) decrease and prevent intrusive or troubling feelings and behaviors; 2) increase personal empowerment; 3) improve quality of life; and 4) achieve their own life goals and dreams. Working with a WRAP® can help individuals to monitor uncomfortable and distressing feelings and behaviors and, through planned responses, reduce, modify, or eliminate those feelings. Is this a clinical intervention?
Nope. WRAP® is considered a personal wellness tool. It is often used outside of clinical services, but can also be provided as an extension of services within a clinical setting. WRAP® can be applied to many aspects of personal health, including wellness specifically within the context of work life, surrounding a particular life event, or what we may think of as a formal mental health condition. In other words, WRAP® is a tool that can be personalized and used for whatever area of life someone wishes to focus on.
Does WRAP® have something to do with peer support?
Participants will have time for private, personal reflection and planning but will also engage in small group discussions, providing peer-based support to one-another. Because of the non-expert driven nature of WRAP®, it has become a common, evidence-based tool used by certified peer professionals.
What is included?
- WRAP® workbook and materials
- 18 CEU’s for certified peer professional and peer specialist supervisors
- Experienced facilitators working to create an honest, safe environment for exploration & healing
- An introduction to WRAP® as a service offering – those who wish to attend a WRAP® Seminar II, Facilitator Training will have met their pre-requisite
Is WRAP® evidence-based?
In 2010, WRAP® was recognized by the United States Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) as an evidence-based practice and listed in the National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices. (source: Copeland Center).
