Peer Practice: Diversity & Inclusion

Peer Practice: Diversity & Inclusion is a one-day training that teaches Peer Specialists to understand how diversity can show up in recovery and transformation, to become aware of and create strategies to address personal and organizational biases, and to learn how to build inclusive support groups. Participants will also explore the importance of diversity and inclusivity in the peer support field as a whole. This is a one-day interactive training that will focus on sharing information, cultivating self-awareness, and collaboration.
At the end of this training, participants should be able to:
- Understand the meaning of diversity and inclusion and how it connects to recovery
- View Peer Support Core Values and Key Concepts through the lens of diversity and inclusion
- Recognize the importance of diversity and inclusion in doing effective and impactive individual work with clients
- Practice connecting with others around differences and engaging in meaningful discourse about those differences
- Learn about, and develop awareness around different types of biases
- Learn how to be more inclusive in setting up and delivering support groups
- Recognize areas in their organization that would benefit from more diversity and/or improving avenues of inclusion
- Explore the importance of diversity in the professional field of Peer Support and learn how each person can actively support inclusion
Via Hope training content is provided via Zoom through an online learning platform. Participants will be required to have an active internet connection and be on camera for the majority of the training. Individual computer access is required; participants will not be able to log on in a group environment.
