May 13, 2019: required Core Principles Training (6 hours, online format). Orientation materials must be reviewed before applying to the Core.
July 15-19, 2019: 5-day full training applicable to Mental Health Peer Specialist credential.
LOCATION: Austin, TX
COST: Core Training ($75), Full Training ($650). (Lodging for full training to be covered by Via Hope).
Core Training: May 6, 2019
Full Training: June 14, 2019 (Passing score on Core Training knowledge assessment gains access to Full Training application.)
WHAT IS AN MHPS?
- An individual in recovery from a mental health condition who is trained to effectively use their recovery story to help others.
- One of 1,300 trained and certified peer specialists across Texas who work in a variety of professional mental health recovery settings.
- A paraprofessional able to earn a living wage in service to others.

WHAT IS VIA HOPE?
For the last 10 years, Via Hope has created environments of compassion and healing by training individuals who have lived experience with mental illness as Mental Health Peer Specialists (MHPS) and parent peers as Certified Family Partners (CFP) for families whose children have a mental health challenge. Via Hope’s organizational change programs have been implemented statewide to encourage person-centered and recovery-oriented practices.
