Hill Country Mental Health and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Centers is a unit of local government and a not-for-profit, 501C provider of Mental Health and Intellectual Developmental Disabilities, Substance Abuse, and Veteran Peer Services throughout the greater Texas Hill Country Region. Hill Country MHDD Centers is designated to be the Mental Health Authority by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and the Intellectual and Developmental Disability Authority by the Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) for a 19 County Service Area including: Bandera, Blanco, Comal, Edwards, Gillespie, Hays, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Kinney, Llano, Mason, Medina, Menard, Real, Schleicher, Sutton, Uvalde and Val Verde Counties. Job role and purpose:

Under the direction of the Director of Peer Support Services, the Peer Support Specialist provides individual and group peer support services to individuals in need of behavioral health supports. Supports include assistance with more effectively utilizing the service delivery system, understanding and coping with stressors along with coaching, and mentoring of the individuals served through peer support. The position provides recovery-oriented peer services as part of a multi-disciplinary team to individuals enrolled in Hill Country MHDD behavioral health services programs. Peer support services are designed to offer recovery oriented behavioral health services to individuals, with a goal of restoring cognitive functioning, strengthen natural supports, stabilizing psychiatric symptoms, and developing a clear path to recovery.


Required qualifications:

Academic / Work Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Must have personal lived experience with mental health challenges (one year), and a willingness to share your personal experience of recovery is essential. As a model Peer Support provider, it is important to remain active and stable in one’s own recovery. (Required)


Certificates / Licensure Requirements:

  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Automobile Insurance (Current without lapse)

Salary and benefits info:

$11.92 per hour-New Hires/ not certified; $12.90 per hour- Initial Certification; $13.90 per hour-when guidelines are achieved within 6 months of Initial Certification
