Individual and Leadership Development
In 2003, the President’s New Freedom Commission called for transforming the country’s mental health system to one focused on recovery: one that is “consumer, family, and youth driven”.
In support of the New Freedom Commission’s call to action, Via Hope has committed itself to supporting and amplifying the voice and leadership of people with lived experience. In 2015, Via Hope launched the Peer Voice Project, which develops leadership capacity and builds community among people with lived experience in Texas. More information is available on the Peer Voice Project webpage.
Via Hope also recognizes the power in community-building, connecting peers throughout the state, and sharing emerging knowledge and wisdom about recovery and peer support. Our Best Practices in Peer Support offers monthly webinars to connect people across the state as they learn about topics relevant to building and supporting peer support and leadership of people with lived experience. Additionally, our Community Connections monthly conference call offers peers throughout the state with a platform to engage and learn from each other.
