Check Out this Cool Youth Website!
I would like to welcome www.reachout.com to my list of wonderful youth websites. Their tag line is, “Getting through tough times.” This site is pretty awesome! I like Reach Out for a several reasons. It was created by youth; it is currently run by youth, and all content is youth generated. Reach Out also covers many, many topics that effect youth’s lives, going beyond just your typical mental health stuff. It touches on things, like family relationships, sexuality, grief and loss, pregnancy. As we all know, youth with mental health issues also have lives, so they need tools for how to deal with real life stuff!
The site itself has three really neat components. They have a Facts section that gives information about mental health in a youth-friendly way. It also has information about the different types of mental health professionals and how youth can pay for their services, which is awesome! Reach Out has a Real Stories section where youth can share their stories and support one another. Real Stories has an interactive media element that is pretty sweet. The last component of the site is called Youth Voice. This section offers youth the opportunity to become a part of the site and to get involved in the Reach Out Youth Council.
